Vic: Ultralight Tasman crossing attempt

An ultralight pilot attempting to cross the Tasman Sea from Victoria expects to reach
New Zealand tonight.

Speaking to ABC radio, East Gippsland adventurer BEN BUCKLEY says he's well on his
way to becoming the first person to cross the Tasman in an ultralight aircraft.

The daredevil took off from Mallacoota airstrip on the far eastern tip of Victoria
at about half past six this morning.

Mr BUCKLEY reported striking problems when he tried to get above three thousand metres
looking for tail winds.

After suffering dizziness and engine problems in the thin air he dropped to a lower
level to continue the flight.
