Fed: Greens form global coalition

Green activists from across the world have unveiled a plan to band together and use
their international numbers to wage a war against corporate power.

Leading greens have dubbed the emerging alliance a fresh political force, which will
provide an alternative to the economic rationalism dominating global centres of power.

The alliance's first act could be a boycott of American oil companies, which many believe
used their financial clout to influence the United States' stance on global warming.

The plan was revealed at the first international greens conference, which began in
Canberra yesterday with 800 activists and politicians from 70 countries.

Australian Greens Senator BOB BROWN says the global network will try to ensure corporations
did not call the shots politically because of their financial influence.
