Fed: Aust soldier loses toes in encounter with Afghan landmine
CANBERRA, Jan 18 AAP - An Australian SAS soldier lost two toes from his right footwhen he stepped on a landmine in southern Afghanistan, the Australian Defence Force (ADF)said today.
The man, whose name, age and address have not been released, was seriously injuredin yesterday's incident but it was not life-threatening, Army chief Lieutenant GeneralPeter Cosgrove said.
He was treated at the scene, had surgery in a military hospital in Kandahar and wasthen flown to an American military hospital in Germany.
