QLD: Re entry course for returning nurses

BRISBANE, Dec 30 AAP - Nurses who have been out of the workforce and want to return to
acute care can brush up their skills through a course being offered at four Queensland
hospitals.

The re-entry program run through Wesley Hospital, Sunnybank Private Hospital, the North
West Private Hospital and the Mater Public Hospital offers eight weeks' theory and seven
weeks' clinical practise.

Course coordinator Melinda Zerner said 93 nurses had re-entered the workplace since the
program began at the Wesley Hospital in 1997, with a 100 per cent successful employment rate
this year in hospitals, nursing homes and doctors' surgeries.

The 1999 program will take 30 candidates in two intakes on February 15 and 19.

Applications close on January 14.
